Collectors are inspired by the powerful life story of Samuel Pierce

Samuel Pierce is a Renowned Painter, whose nearly half-century long career in the arts includes Coordinator of the premier Seattle Urban Art Exhibition, and a judge in Bumbershoot’s visual art shows. He also is an Outstanding Singer and a Legendary Athlete.
He was recently selected as Top Artist of the Year for 2021 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership, dedication and excellence as an Artist.
As a young boy, Samuel used to visit a local farm. During summers, he looked up at sunflowers and marveled at their height, color, beauty and majesty. He noted how they turned to follow the sun from morning to afternoon, and committed to be like a sunflower, to grow into his full potential and follow the light through all circumstances. Through the years, sunflowers often appear in his paintings.

As a natural athlete growing up in segregated Birmingham, Alabama in the 1960’s, Mr. Pierce has always been about change. He faced many obstacles in his youth, and his art was his therapy. On a scholarship for basketball, Mr. Pierce left Birmingham for Seattle, where he learned to adjust and try new things. He worked very hard to banish his accent while in college and his grades never suffered. Over the decades he has developed a signature, postmodernist style of art which frequently portrays musical themes and characters such as jazz legend Charlie Parker.

His impressive repertoire of vital roles confirm his dedication to the local arts and Black History Programs. He served as the coordinator of the first Seattle Urban Art Exhibition and as the judge in Bumbershoot’s Visual Art shows. Mr. Pierce also sang with local Rhythm and Blues bands. By the 1980’s several clubs included his band “Sam Pierce and the Pierce Arrows” in a regular line up. He is an influencer of his time who has taught low-income and minority students the value of the visual arts to help them imagine a bright path for their futures. Before Mr. Pierce embarked on his professional career path, he attended Seattle University as a scholarship athlete and earned his degree as an Art major. He was also professionally scouted for basketball by the Seattle Super Sonics, Portland Trailblazers, and Milwaukee Bucks. He was inducted in the the Seattle University Hall of Fame with the great Elgin Baylor. Ultimately his love for the arts led him to pursue a career in arts and human services. Sports themes appear in several pieces of his art.

An internationally recognized artist with private collectors both in and outside the U.S., Mr. Pierce attributes his success to his perseverance, passion for the arts and his positive attitude. When not creating a new masterpiece or working as the Priority Hire and Apprenticeship Utilization Program Manager for the Port of Seattle, he enjoys meeting new people, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends, including his oldest son Aaron Pierce who played H Back for the New York Giants for seven years.

For the future, Mr. Pierce will continue surrounding himself with “beautiful diversity,” an important foundation he holds dear to him.

He was recently selected as Top Artist of the Year for 2021 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership, dedication and excellence as an Artist.
